Since the beginning of time, humans are still looking for purpose, meaning, the reason for living. I believe it is in the blood of every human to seek out why they exist - it is a universal pilgrimage as well as an individual journey. This is a good thing. Ultimately, one will come face to face with the fact that all paths (in finding meaning and purpose) lead to God - the one and only God! Once man comes to God, the search for purpose is over.
The wisest man that has ever lived, after a lifetime of pursuing purpose and meaning, confessed the chief end to man's existence:
"13 Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the whole duty of man." Eccl 12:13
The pursuit of purpose must stop and the mastering of how to live out that purpose to the glory of God is what must be the target in this life.
The purpose of man is universal - it is the same for every human. What a joyless burden it is to keep trying to find one's own personal mission in life. Man's neverending facination with purpose statements, vision statements, missions statements, etc. serves only to confuse, frustrate and make life meaningless.
Man's purpose and mission has been declared. What needs to be done now is to seek ways to live it out.
P.S. Did you catch that I said all paths lead to God? That is what I said, but what do I mean?
