A deputy press secretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security was charged with using a computer to seduce a child after authorities said he struck up sexual conversations with an undercover detective posing as a 14-year-old girl. There is so much that could be said about this. I am not going to put in writing what my initial reaction is to this news. I don't know how to describe the feelings I have about it all.
Brian J. Doyle, 55, the fourth-ranking official in the department's public affairs office, was expected to appear in court Wednesday afternoon in Maryland and also to be placed on administrative leave.
I will just list a few thoughts I've had:
- The fourth man in charge of the safety and security of our homeland was busted probably with the tools and techniques he had something to do with in designing and deploying.
- The biggest myth of the internet is that it is private.
- The lure of porn is more complex than anyone has, can, or will ever understand. What the world knows about the power of porn to inflict damage and death is nothing.

I have a few personal thoughts too, especially considering that my mom's dad is a convicted (twice) pedophile. But I'll spare most of them. Just one: I believe, according to the article, that he was the fourth-ranking official in the public affairs department, not the entire department. While that doesn't make it any better as a whole, I certainly feel better knowing that the guy's job is in communicating to the public what the department is doing, not actually performing the department's tasks.
Sin is sad.
Correct Joey. Thanks for pointing to his correct rank.
