I've heard stories of
this type of junk going on with Wal-Mart and it's channel vendors. I work for a company that's been told by Wal-mart "how things will work". Wal-Mart chokes its suppliers to death. But we're talking Coke here. I am surprised Coke fizzled out so easily.

I like Walmart for precisely this reason - for the consumer it's like having the 800 lb gorilla on your side in negotiating with these companies.
I hear ya. I don't like the "we'll just make our own drink" attitude. I doubt they'd actually do it.
I don't like Wal-Mart for this reason. Small companies get screwed. I know, Coke is no small companies, but there are plenty of small companies who do get the shaft. So, I don't shop there.
However, I do think that Wal-Mart is a great example of capitalism and the free market. I go to...well, anywhere but Wal-Mart...because I choose to. But I don't picket Wal-Mart when they open a new store. If all of those picketers and complainers would quit their complaining and just quit shopping there, Wal-Mart would go downhill quickly enough.
