Good luck, Wild! Have fun, Pat. I'll be watching American Idol. Sorry.

I admit I do not know hockey. Being a Hoosier where we never heard of hockey is what I blame. I have a question that I have never been able to figure out about the icing call. Sometimes the announcer will make the comment that icing is being waved off and play continues rather than the icing call and then a faceoff back in the icing's teams zone. Why and who waves off the icing.

The linesman makes a judgment call whether or not the puck could have been played by the "icing" team. If he thinks it could have been, then he waves off the icing. Icing is somewhat of a delay tactic so the linesman will make the call to keep the game moving.

I will have to talk to you about this sometime in person because I am still confussed. As I understand it and believe me I am probably wrong. If icing is called you are not allowed to substitute players. If icing is waved off then they can substitute. Right? Makes no sense to me because I believe icing is just shooting the puck down the rink for the sole purpose of gaining relief from an attack. We will have to have a discussion on this sometime.

Substitution of players is not affected by icing..and vice versa.
